When he first came to us, he thought he had found the perfect time to finally deal with his low back pain. He had some time off work. Life had slowed down a little. And he was ready to focus on himself. So we got to work figuring out what was actually contributing to his pain and building a plan around it. Then life started back up again. Work got busy. His schedule filled up. And suddenly, it wasn’t the “perfect time” anymore. At one of his appointments, Dr. Mylee asked the usual question: “How did your exercises go this past week?” He looked a little sheepish. He hadn’t gotten to them. He was overworked, overbooked, and just didn’t have the bandwidth. And honestly? That’s real life. So instead of making him feel guilty or asking him to force a long routine into an already packed schedule, we changed the plan. We created a short, effective routine he could actually fit into his busiest days. And on the days when he had more time? He had a longer workout he could do. Then the next week came around. Before Dr. Mylee could even finish asking how things went, he jumped in: “I got sick this weekend, and so did my son…” Not exactly the week you’d expect someone to crush their health goals. But then he said: “I still made sure to do my exercises. I ate healthy even though all I wanted was McDonald’s.” And then came the best part: “I had 3 nights of zero low back pain!” That’s the win. Not because he had a perfect week. He didn’t. Life was still busy. He got sick. His son got sick. But he found a way to keep showing up for himself anyway. And that’s where progress starts to feel different. Because getting better usually isn’t about waiting for the perfect time. It’s about finding something that works even when life is messy. If you’ve been telling yourself, “I’ll work on this when things calm down…” You may not need more time. You may just need a plan that actually fits your life.
