If you’ve dealt with sciatica, you’ve probably heard a lot of advice.
“Just stretch more.”
“Stay off of it until it goes away.”
“It’s coming from your tight hamstrings.”
But some of the most common advice about sciatica can actually keep you chasing the problem instead of understanding it.
Here are 3 sciatica myths we hear all the time:
Myth #1: Sciatica is the actual problem
Sciatica describes symptoms like pain, burning, tingling, or discomfort traveling down the leg.
But the bigger question is:
Why is the nerve irritated in the first place?
Myth #2: You just need to stretch more
Stretching might feel good temporarily.
But if your symptoms keep returning, more stretching alone may not address what’s contributing to them.
Sometimes we need to look at how your hips, spine, trunk, and entire body are moving together.
Myth #3: Rest will eventually fix it
Rest can calm things down.
But feeling better while doing less isn’t always the same as actually solving the problem.
At Connect, our goal is to figure out why your symptoms keep showing up, then help you rebuild the strength, control, and confidence to get back to your life.
Because you shouldn’t have to organize everything you do around your sciatica.
